1. Arrival at Rafting Point

Guests arrive at the rafting base camp located at Melli or Rangpo along the banks of the Teesta River. After a warm welcome, you will be introduced to the rafting team and assigned to your rafting group.

2. Registration & Safety Orientation

All participants complete a basic registration and waiver form.

Professional river guides conduct a detailed safety briefing explaining paddling techniques, commands, river signals and safety procedures.

Each participant is provided with a life jacket, helmet and paddle.

3. Gear Up & Practice Session

Before entering the water, guides demonstrate how to sit inside the raft, how to hold the paddle correctly and how to respond during rapids. A short practice session is conducted on calm water so everyone becomes comfortable and confident.

4. Raft Launch - Into the River

The raft is gently launched into the flowing Teesta River.

5. White Water Rapids Experience

Soon the current strengthens and the raft encounters its first rapids.

6. Scenic Float & River Relaxation

7. Final Rapids & Landing

1. Is Teesta River rafting safe for beginners?

Yes. The rafting stretches operated for tourists are Grade II–III rapids, which are considered safe and enjoyable for first-time rafters.

Each raft is controlled by a trained and certified river guide, and all participants are provided with safety equipment before entering the water.

2. Do I need to know swimming?

No, swimming is not required. You will be wearing a high-buoyancy life jacket (personal flotation device) at all times, and the safety team accompanies every raft.

3. What is the minimum age for rafting?

Generally children above 10 years are allowed, depending on water level and weather conditions. For younger children, permission is decided by the river guide on site for safety reasons.

4. What should I wear during rafting?

You should wear:

  • Quick-dry clothing (t-shirt & shorts/track pants)

  • Secure sandals or sports shoes

  • Avoid sarees, loose slippers, heavy jackets or denim jeans

Carry a spare set of clothes and a towel, as you will get wet.

5. What is the best time of year for rafting in Teesta River?

The ideal season is October to April when the river level is suitable and water clarity is best.

Rafting usually remains closed during heavy monsoon months (June–September) due to safety reasons.

6. What happens if someone falls into the river?
