While the mountains of Sikkim inspire peace, the Teesta River awakens adventure. Rafting here transforms a normal sightseeing journey into an active Himalayan memory, one filled with laughter, splashes and stories you will retell long after the journey ends.
Guests arrive at the rafting base camp located at Melli or Rangpo along the banks of the Teesta River. After a warm welcome, you will be introduced to the rafting team and assigned to your rafting group.
All participants complete a basic registration and waiver form.
Professional river guides conduct a detailed safety briefing explaining paddling techniques, commands, river signals and safety procedures.
Each participant is provided with a life jacket, helmet and paddle.
Before entering the water, guides demonstrate how to sit inside the raft, how to hold the paddle correctly and how to respond during rapids. A short practice session is conducted on calm water so everyone becomes comfortable and confident.
The raft is gently launched into the flowing Teesta River.
Initially the raft drifts through calmer waters allowing you to get familiar with paddling and coordination.
The valley scenery unfolds with lush hills, rocky riverbanks and hanging bridges overhead.
Soon the current strengthens and the raft encounters its first rapids.
As instructed by the guide, the team paddles together while the raft surges through splashing waves and swirling currents.
The thrilling rush of cold mountain water and cheering excitement make this the highlight of the adventure.
Between rapids, the river calms and the raft floats peacefully through wide valleys.
You can relax, enjoy the mountain views, click photos and feel the refreshing river breeze.
The experience beautifully balances adventure with nature.
The final stretch brings a few more fun rapids before reaching the designated landing point at Melli. Ground staff assist you out of the raft and help you change into dry clothes if needed.
After the rafting experience, guests can relax at the riverside for photographs and refreshments (own expense). You then proceed onward to Gangtok, Darjeeling or your next destination.
Yes. The rafting stretches operated for tourists are Grade II–III rapids, which are considered safe and enjoyable for first-time rafters.

No, swimming is not required. You will be wearing a high-buoyancy life jacket (personal flotation device) at all times, and the safety team accompanies every raft.
Generally children above 10 years are allowed, depending on water level and weather conditions. For younger children, permission is decided by the river guide on site for safety reasons.
You should wear:
Quick-dry clothing (t-shirt & shorts/track pants)
Secure sandals or sports shoes
Avoid sarees, loose slippers, heavy jackets or denim jeans
Carry a spare set of clothes and a towel, as you will get wet.
The ideal season is October to April when the river level is suitable and water clarity is best.
Rafting usually remains closed during heavy monsoon months (June–September) due to safety reasons.
It is rare, but in such a situation the safety team and guides are trained in swift-water rescue. The life jacket keeps you afloat, and you will be immediately assisted back into the raft or guided safely to the riverbank.
Yes. Riverside photographers or GoPro recording may be available at additional cost depending on the rafting operator and water conditions.
Including registration, briefing, gearing up and rafting, the full experience usually takes 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the chosen rafting stretch.
Advance booking is highly recommended, especially during peak tourist season (October, November, December, March, April) as rafting slots fill quickly.
The activity is not recommended for:
